Wedding photos always have a touch of magic in them. They capture some of the most special moments of a new couple’s lives. But few wedding pictures truly capture the magic of the “First Look” shots.
What is the first look? Although this is a popular wedding photo choice, many people don’t actually know what it means. Basically, the first look is an allocated time before the ceremony where the bride and groom privately see each other for the first time on their wedding day. They capture the intimacy, love, and passion between the couple. Most of the time your immediate family and wedding party will be nearby, but far enough that you can have this special moment together uninterrupted.
Picture this. The groom is looking at the photographer as the bride begins to walk towards him. She’ll tap him on the shoulder, and he turns to see her. His face captures the wonder of seeing his gorgeous bride for the first time, and her face shows the excitement and love for him.
Once these intimate pictures are finished, it usually followed by couple’s portraits, then the group pictures of the wedding party and their immediate family.
Although some couples prefer a traditional schedule of the wedding day, and seeing each other at the ceremony, most couples who have opted in for the “First Look” say they are glad they did it. First Look allowed them to relax for the rest of the wedding, have enough time for portraits, made the whole day less stressed AND as a bonus everybody gets to enjoy the cocktail hour. Additionally, most couples find that taking their pictures first does not take away from the magic of the bride’s appearance at the beginning of the ceremony. It’s quite the opposite – you get to have two special moments instead of one!
In the end, you get to choose how you want your wedding portraits taken. But if you want less stress and more time to enjoy your wedding, we highly recommend the first look pictures.
